On Saturday May 15th, 2004 approximately 275 people came together to watch and take part in the 8th Annual B.C. Championship Forklift Rally. The event took place at the former 192,000 square foot Telus facility in Langley, B.C.

The event began at 9:00 am with contestants being given an orientation on the days events, what the judges would be looking for and a tour of the precision driving courses. Once that was completed the event kicked into gear. Contestants competed in one of three divisions, either Reach Truck, Counterbalance or Walkie Rider and had to complete three phases of competition, a written test, a pre-trip inspection and finally the precision driving course. In addition all riders were invited to compete in the Double Jack Competition which involved moving a bowling ball with a double length pallet jack.

While the competition took place spectators also had a chance to check out the other activities at the rally including an industry related trade show, a keynote speech on hydrogen fuel cells by Cellex, the coffee and donuts for breakfast (compliments of Manpower) and a lunch of Smokies & Pop (courtesy of Johnston Equipment & Freybe).

In addition there were many door prizes including gift baskets from H.Y. Louie, a First Aid Kit from St. John Ambulance, quilts and pillows from West Coast Packaging, gift packs from Christie Biscuits and an autographed Dan Cloutier jersey from Johnston Equipment.

By 2:00 pm all contestants had completed all three phases of the competition and the attention turned towards the awards portion of the event. In addition to the trophies, winners in each division were awarded $400 (and a $50 Keg gift certificate courtesy of IVES Training) for first place, $200 for second and $100 for third.  The winner of the Double Jack Competition received a trophy and a cordless phone.
